Lesson 39       / ə /
For letter clusters “ar, er, ir, or and ur” have / 3: / speech sound if the stress is on that syllable.  However if the stress is not on that syllable, then it has *schwa /ə/ speech sound.   Any vowel letters “a   e   i   o   u” in the unstressed syllable(s) may have / ə / or / I/ speech sound

The letter “a” in “a / a + r” may have the speech sound.

Say “a” if you think the twins are as alike as two peas.
Say “a” if the fish is alive. 
Say “a” if you walk across the road.
Say “a” if the cups are made in China.
Say “ar” if you see a beggar.
Say “ar” if you have the calendar of 2014
